Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has reportedly leaked the PlayStation 5 Pro specs ahead of its Q4 2024 release. Codenamed ‘Project Trinity’, the upgraded console boasts effective rendering resolutions via custom machine learning silicon, along with an all-new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technique.
Hardware wise, there’s nothing too extreme, aside from the AMD Zen 2 chip that gives developers the ability to run at a capped 3.85GHz clock speed instead of the 3.5GHz on the standard PS5, and the 60 dual compute units. Sony has also purportedly upgraded the audio engine, which is now 35 percent faster than the standard PlayStation 5’s. Think of PlayStation Spectral Resolution (PSSR) as a resolution multipliers that should match NVIDIA DLSS, which means a game rendering at 1080p can be automatically upscaled to a 4K resolution image in two milliseconds.
