We know that focusing the sun’s rays on an object with a magnifying glass can be used to start a fire, but what about doing the same with the IMALENT MS32, the world’s brightest flashlight? It boasts 200,000 lumens and is capable of illuminating an area up to 1,618 meters, or the equivalent of over 100 automotive lights.
There are some limitations to how hot the magnified beam can get, as the conservation of etendue states that the etendue of a light bundle can’t be decreased in an optical system. In other words, you can’t squish light down smaller than its original source. However, the biggest issue was they couldn’t magnify the light to make something hotter than the source itself.

In the army, we had these surefire mounted gun lights. It was called the Hellfire. Would burn your hand if you put it in front of the beam. But the coolest thing was when you put an IR filter on the end of the capsule. And put on NVG’s. Could see for a half mile and no-one even knew you were there. You should get something like that for this flashlight,” said one commenter.
