Cloud cities may be a sci-fi dream, for now, but it’s safe to assume that at least one space agency will build a functional Venus rover. The Beardy Penguin, along with a few friends, decided to try their hands at doing so.
To achieve this, the team split the rover up into four parts: obstacle detection, mechanical computer, locomotion (tracks), and the drivetrain. We won’t bore you with the details, but its obstacle detection system consists of three (left, center, right) triple-rollers in front of the rover. These rollers then trigger inputs on the mechanical computer when it encounters an obstacle over a certain size, thus indicating the position of each roller (up / down) and the combination of inputs to determine the proper maneuver to clear the obstacle.
