Hasselblad’s latest flagship, the X2D II 100C, is a big step forward for medium format cameras, combining the latest technology with Hasselblad’s craftsmanship. This is a refined tool that tackles long standing issues and introduces features that make it a winner for pros and enthusiasts.
Start with the sensor, the heart of every camera, and Hasselblad doesn’t disappoint. The X2D II 100C has a 100-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor that can shoot 16-bit RAW files with 15.3 stops of dynamic range, up from 15 stops on the original. With a native ISO of 50 (down from 64) your images will have loads of detail from the deepest shadows to the brightest highlights. Whether shooting wide vistas or intimate portraits the camera can capture subtle gradations across 281 trillion colors and turn every frame into a visual treat. You’ll notice the difference when editing as the sensor’s fidelity gives you unprecedented freedom in post.
- Advanced 24.2MP BSI Full-frame Image Sensor w/ 1.8X readout speed Advanced 24.2MP Back-Illuminated 35mm Full-frame Image Sensor
- 15-stop dynamic range, 14-bit uncompressed RAW, ISO 50 to 204,800
- Up to 10fps Silent or Mechanical Shutter with AE/AF tracking
Hasselblad’s medium format cameras have always struggled with autofocus, but the X2D II 100C changes everything. For the first time Hasselblad has continuous autofocus (AF-C) which is driven by a phase-detect technology with 425 zones, up from 294 on the previous model. A LiDAR technology built into the front of the camera improves focus accuracy in low light and a new AF illuminator is a self timer indicator. Deep learning algorithms track people, animals and cars so you can capture both the brief moments and the intentional compositions. Not all XCD lenses have AF-C but many do, including the new XCD 35-100mm f/2.8-4 E which is a versatile lens for dynamic situations.
Its 5-axis, 10-stop in-body image stabilization (IBIS) is a big jump from the 7-stop system of the previous model, giving you up to 8 times more stability for distant subjects. Handheld long exposures of several seconds are now possible without a tripod, a game changer for street photographers or those chasing silky water effects in natural light. Hasselblad’s engineers followed strict calibration protocols to achieve this, so you get crisp images even in tough conditions.
Weighing 7.5% less than the original, the X2D II 100C is easier to handle during long shoots, despite having more features. A graphite grey matte finish, more durable than before, pairs with a refined grip texture and a sleek black logo for a premium look. A new 5D joystick joins the 3.6-inch OLED touchscreen, which now has 1,400 nits of brightness – 75% more than the X2D 100C – for clear and accurate image review. The screen tilts 90° up and 43° down, pulls out to avoid the electronic viewfinder (EVF), which remains sharp with 1.00x magnification and 100% coverage. Eight custom buttons, including one new one, give you more control, so you don’t have to rely on the touchscreen for quick adjustments.
Hasselblad Natural Color Solution HDR (HNCS HDR) captures Ultra HDR JPEG and HDR HEIF files, which reduces overexposure and increases tonal depth. Images pop with life-like color and detail, and can be reviewed on the OLED screen or edited with Phocus Mobile 2 for iOS devices. This software also includes wireless image transmission, remote control and Hasselblad’s AI-powered Natural Noise Reduction, which cleans up RAW data while preserving clarity. If you share on HDR capable platforms, the results are stunning, just like what the human eye sees in real life.Storage is still a strength with 1TB of internal SSD storage – up to 2,370MB/s write and 2,850MB/s read – so you don’t have to worry about running out of space mid shoot. A CFexpress Type B slot is also available for those who need it. The camera is compatible with the new XCD 35-100mm f/2.8-4 E lens, priced at $4,599, which adds a zoom option with a 28-76mm full-frame equivalent range.

Priced at $7,399, the X2D II 100C is a good investment if you want medium format image quality without compromising on modernity. With continuous autofocus, industry leading stabilization and true HDR capture, it’s a tool that meets the demands of professional photographers and inspires them to go beyond.
