ACEMAGIC’s Kron Mini K1 PC Gets the Job Done For Less

Cheap Windows boxes usually force a compromise you feel by lunch. ACEMAGIC’s Kron Mini K1, priced at $275.18 after clipping the on-page coupon (was $480), tries to dodge that fate by stuffing a real desktop into a cube you can hide behind a monitor, hang with the included VESA plate, or slide onto a shelf and forget. This particular machine features AMD’s Ryzen Embedded R2544, 16GB of DDR4, a 256GB drive, and Windows 11 Pro already on the disk.

Four cores and eight threads sit on an AMD Zen+ design, clocked at 3.35GHz and capable of turbo boosting to 3.7GHz, with 4MB of shared cache, and already running at a 45 watt envelope that can be tamed or turned up a notch depending on how the BIOS is configured. It’s not a brand new laptop chip by any means; it’s an older embedded part from 2022 that still outperforms many of the budget names that shoppers typically compare it to, such as the Ryzen 3 4300U and Intel’s N150 class, especially when multiple programs are running at the same time. Everyday office duties, a busy browser, video calls, and other applications will continue to be usable. The Vega 8 graphics chip runs at up to 1300MHz, which is more than enough for 4k video and even older or more modest games, and you can connect three screens at 4k and 60Hz via HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, DisplayPort 1.4, or the USB-C connector, which also supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.

After about a week, this little computer really begins to pay for itself in terms of memory and storage. The offer includes two DDR4 slots (with 16GB of memory), which may be expanded to 32GB without the need for soldered boards. Inside, you’ll find two M.2 bays, one SATA and the other NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4, with room for up to 4TB if you replace the provided 256GB drive with a larger one and fill the second slot. On the wireless side of things, you get the obsolete Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2, which is still adequate for a keyboard, mouse, and a WiFi router at home, but may seem dated if your router currently supports Wi-Fi 6. However, you do get a pretty large spread of USB connections, including a USB-C port and a number of USB-A 3.2 sockets, a 3.5mm jack, and the standard DC barrel for the brick. The computer measures approximately 5.04 x 5.04 x 1.61 inches and should fit in a laptop bag if you want to bring the adapter with you. The box contains the computer itself, a power supply, an HDMI cable, a VESA bracket, and a short handbook manual.


You can use it to replace a dusty office PC, a living room streamer, a parent’s second machine, or a little box that wakes up on a set time and sits behind a television. BitLocker, Remote Desktop host, and Hyper-V are all included in Windows 11 Pro, so you may use them right immediately. A clean install from Microsoft’s media is still the best way to start with any no-name tiny PC, followed by locking the firmware, setting a password, and discarding the default image. Following that, the Kron Mini K1 is a tiny, upgradeable Windows PC that can handle everyday tasks without requiring an extra square foot of desk space.
