Inventor Allen Pan needed to deal with a mosquito problem. So, he decided to build a TED Talks-inspired laser weapon to do so. It relies on a pair of 10-watt lasers that reflect off mirrors to create a grid capable of zapping mosquitoes to oblivion.
These aren’t basic laser pointers that some professors use, but rather tools that could potentially blind a person, so it goes without saying that this is definitely a project you shouldn’t try at home. Even though Allen has some experience with these lasers, things did not go as planned, since the lasers are so powerful that they burned holes in the mirrors. When all was said and done, the team found that this laser weapon wasn’t quite as effective as they initially thought.
