Just days after the Apple Watch Series 9 (PRODUCT)RED was unveiled, sales are set to be halted online for that smartwatch, along with all the other Series 9 and Ultra 2 models, on Thursday (Dec. 21). Why? An ongoing patent dispute between Apple and medical company Masimo regarding blood oxygen sensor technology.
This sales halt is the result of an October ruling by the FTC that found Apple violated the patent of California-based medical technology company Masimo. The Biden administration has 60-days to review the ruling and possibly issue a veto. If you still want either smartwatch, sales will not be halted until Dec. 24 at physical Apple Store locations.
