The AYANEO Flip 1S DS takes the flip-open style of the old Nintendo DS and turns it into a full gaming PC you can hold in your hands. Launched on Indiegogo in July 2025, it’s trying to carve out a spot in a crowded market where single-screen devices like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally dominate.
What sets this handheld apart is its two screens. The main one is a 7-inch OLED, sharp with 1080p resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Below it, there’s a 4.5-inch LCD touchscreen with 1620×1080 resolution and a boxy 3:2 shape. Great for running extra apps, playing old DS or 3DS games that need two screens, or juggling tasks while gaming. AYANEO’s AYASpace 3.0 software makes the lower screen even more useful, can be used as a virtual keyboard, trackpad or dashboard to keep an eye on the device’s performance.

Under the hood, you’ve got a choice of two AMD processors. The base model uses the Ryzen 7 8840U, while pricier versions get the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, which has 12 CPU cores, 24 threads and 16 GPU cores – more muscle than most other handhelds out there. You can choose from 16GB to 64GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM and storage options from 512GB to 2TB SSDs. This can run everything from small indie games to big budget titles, but the 45Wh battery might not last long during heavy sessions. It supports 65W fast charging and a bypass mode to reduce battery wear when plugged in.
The Flip 1S DS feels solid, thanks to a metal chassis carved out by CNC machines. The hinge lets the screen tilt to any angle from flat to fully open, which is handy to find the perfect position. The controls are precise, with Hall-effect joysticks, dual X-axis motors for better vibration and dual six-axis gyroscopes for motion sensing. The sound is impressive too, with a smart amplifier pushing clear stereo audio. You can get it in Shadow Black, Starry Yellow or white-and-red Retro Power, but the last one is only for the top model with 64GB RAM and 2TB storage.
AYANEO is going with crowdfunding for this launch, offering early bird deals on Indiegogo. The base model, with Ryzen 7 8840U, 16GB RAM and 1TB storage is $799. The top model with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 64GB RAM and 2TB storage is $1559. Shipping is expected in September 2025, but crowdfunding comes with risks and some might wonder about AYANEO’s support after the campaign ends. The price is also steep, especially when devices like ROG Ally X has bigger battery for less.
