Blink Video Doorbell 2nd Gen
Blink’s doorbells have always been geared at the average homeowner, who wants a clear view of the front porch without spending a fortune or fighting with sophisticated equipment. Priced at $34.99 (was $69.99), the 2nd Gen Video Doorbell arrives with a few important upgrades that feel more like an evolution than a complete makeover.

The supplied Sync Module Core is smaller and more efficient than the previous version. It can sync up to ten Blink devices and has a battery life of two years on a single set of batteries when used normally. When you pair the doorbell with this module, you’ll have access to live video feeds and two-way chat at any time of day. Without it, the system enters event-response mode, which allows you to only enter a live view or chat by tapping a motion alert within 60 seconds of it appearing on your phone.

This new model has viewing angles of up to 150 degrees, allowing you to capture guests from head to toe without missing the parcels at their feet. Daytime video is 1080p HD, while nighttime video is enhanced infrared that can flip to full color if there is enough streetlight or porch lighting. Motion detection works well; it sends phone alerts when someone approaches, and a subscription enables person recognition, which filters out false alarms from cars or trees swinging in the breeze.

Battery issues frequently cause problems for doorbell owners, but Blink simplifies matters. When correctly linked or synced, those three AA lithium cells will run the doorbell for up to two years, even with the added demands of the wide lens and night vision. Wiring connects to current chime systems (16-24V AC), so the doorbell rings your in-home bell while drawing just enough electricity to extend runtime.

Installation is one of the simplest aspects of owning a Blink device. Download the app, scan the QR code, and follow the steps to install the unit high on the frame or siding—it all snaps together in minutes, wired or not. A wedge accessory tilts the view 5 degrees up or down for oddly angled porches, while a corner mount swings it 25 degrees side to side. Screws and seals are supplied, and it is weatherproof to an IP-54 certification, which means it can survive rain, dust, and temperatures ranging from 4°F to 113°F. Once connected, two-way audio allows you to speak with delivery drivers or greet your neighbors over the speaker, with the ability to unmute in the app.
