Boston Dynamics Atlas 2.0 Humanoid Robot Pick Up Objects
Boston Dynamics’ Atlas 2.0 humanoid robot learns how to pickup, carry, and place objects at company headquarters. Engineers showcased how it could be used in automotive factories and warehouses, where one is expected to sort parts.

They gave Atlas a basic description of the desired end state, which was fill an output dolly with parts in a specific order. Many different car models and trim levels are assembled on the same line in an automotive factory, where installers need the correct individual parts for each of those vehicles in the right order. Sequencing is essentially a pre-processing step where those parts are arranged correctly for the cars that are being assembled that day, the same task that Atlas was given here in this demonstration.

Atlas has strength, range of motion, dexterity, and now the spark of intelligence to take on the human world. Beyond the technological foundations, we are going full speed to bring Atlas to scale—starting with testing in Hyundai facilities this year and then working with additional pilot customers to iterate, ideate, and expand Atlas’ capabilities,” said Zachary Jackowski, Boston Dynamics VP & General Manager – Atlas.
