Did you know that Boston Dynamics’ Atlas humanoid robot doubles as a firefighter back in 2017? If not, here’s a short clip shot back in 2017 of the robot putting out a “fire” on the loading dock at IHMC Robotics in in Pensacola, Florida.
This video just shows how advanced Atlas is compared to other humanoid robots, as this 7-year-old demo uses a combination of teleoperation and autonomous behaviors through a single, remote computer. There’s no word yet on when or if we’ll ever see a home version of Atlas, but analysts predict that such a robot would cost at least $150,000 USD, or slightly more than a brand new 2024 Porsche Taycan 4S EV.
