Boston Dynamics’ Spot gets most of the spotlight, but behind the scenes, their Stretch robot can be seen moving hundreds of cases per hour in warehouses worldwide. The robot has just been upgraded with multipick functionality, which allows it to move multiple boxes with a single swing of the arm.
Humans would need breaks, while Stretch can power through single or multiple shifts any time of day or night, thanks to its long battery life. A computer vision system helps the robot detect and automatically retrieve any boxes that shift or fall while unloading. More importantly, Stretch can easily handle packages of various types and sizes, up to 50 pounds.
