Dark Energy Camera Lobster Nebula NGC 6357
The US Department of Energy’s Dark Energy Camera captured an incredible image of the Lobster Nebula, also known as NGC 6357, located 8,000 light-years from Earth in the direction of constellation Scorpius. Bright, young stars surrounded by massive clouds of dust and gas shows how this nebula earned its name.

Upon closer inspection, you’ll see open star cluster Pismis 24 near its center , which is home to unusually bright and massive stars. There is a faint blue glow near the inner star due to the emission of ionized hydrogen gas, while the surrounding nebula holds a complex artwork of gas, dark dust, stars still forming, and newly born stars.
