DOOM The Dark Ages just got a new launch trailer before its release on May 15, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (through Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass). Published by Bethesda Softworks and made by id Software, the trailer shows off the prequel to Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, focusing on the Doom Slayer’s origin story in a dark fantasy, medieval-style war against Hell.
It highlights the game’s story-driven cinematics and brutal, down-to-earth combat, powered by the newest idTech engine. The Doom Slayer uses classic weapons like the Super Shotgun, plus new ones like the Shield Saw, a spinning shield that works like a boomerang weapon.
- Arm yourself with the DOOM: The Dark Ages Limited Edition controller, inspired by the DOOM Slayer’s armor.
- Battle hordes of demons with DOOM Slayer inspired matte green armor that features 3D, silver helmet spikes and plated sheathing across the top case.
- Grab hold of the rubberized grips outfitted with a leather-like feel to keep you close to the action. Take aim with a sinister red thumbstick that...

Players will tackle bloody, intense fights on battlefields full of demons, using a slower, more careful combat style compared to Doom Eternal’s quick, acrobatic battles. The trailer also shows off huge action moments, like scenes with a 30-story Atlan mech and a cybernetic dragon.

The campaign includes 22 missions, with the first 10 lasting around 9 hours. It’s id Software’s largest campaign so far, featuring big levels like wrecked castles, shadowy forests, and ancient hellish landscapes. Combat feels weightier and more planned, with the Doom Slayer called an “iron tank,” emphasizing brute power and strategic attacks.

The game uses the latest idTech engine, supporting HDR, ray tracing, and sharp visuals for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. PC players need ray-tracing-ready GPUs (like NVIDIA RTX 2060 SUPER or AMD RX 6600). Unlike Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, there’s no multiplayer, so id Software could focus on the campaign.
