EA The Sims Unreal Engine 5 Remake
A YouTube creator named Adam, aka “Adam does GameDev,” is bringing The Sims back to life with a project that’s hard to look away from. He’s rebuilding the classic life simulation game in Unreal Engine 5 and his latest 7 minute video shows off a stunning re-creation of the iconic Bob Newbie lot from the original 2000 game.

Adam’s video takes you through his process of rebuilding Bob Newbie’s humble home, a staple of The Sims early days. He put 40 hours into this one lot, crafting every wall, window and piece of furniture using Unreal Engine 5’s tools. The result is a high definition version of the Newbie house that honors the original, but with modern flair.

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 dedicated graphics card
  • 1710 MHz GPU clock speed and 1807 MHz memory clock speed
  • DisplayPort x 3 (v1.4a) and HDMI 2.1 x 1 output interfaces

Adam’s ambitions go beyond visuals, he wants to make a playable game but he’s honest about the challenges. The video notes the demo isn’t public yet, mostly due to EA, The Sims publisher, legal concerns. But he’s laid the foundation for gameplay, objects can be moved and the lot can be navigated already. The video teases these interactions, shows a Sim moving around the space but the full depth of the original’s systems (needs and relationships) is still a work in progress.

Outside of this remake, Adam has built a multiplayer mod for The Sims 4, available to download and supports up to 12 players in a shared world. This mod is something EA has never officially offered and shows Adam’s ability to deliver what fans want. It adds weight to his Unreal Engine 5 project, he’s not just focused on visuals but on the social and interactive core of The Sims. The mod’s success hints at what could come if Adam expands his remake.

Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen real-time lighting changes with the day and the Newbie home is bathed in soft natural light. Nanite makes sure objects like furniture and walls are detailed without performance hit so everything is crisp. The video pans around the lot showing off textures and lighting that’s light years ahead of the original’s flat cartoonish style.
