ETH Zurich Students Electric Race Car Record
Students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University have built a record-breaking electric race car that can accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in a mere 0.956 seconds, covering a distance of 12.3 meters (40.3 feet). The vehicle weighs in at just 309 pounds (140 kilograms), thanks to a lightweight carbon and aluminum honeycomb chassis.

Power comes from four electric motors inside each wheel that generate a combined 326 hp. However, the most impressive thing to note is that all of the components, including the printed circuit boards (PCBs), battery and even the motors, were developed by the students. This bests the previous world record of 1.461 seconds set by a team from the University of Stuttgart in September 2022.

Working on the project in addition to my studies was very intense. But even so, it was a lot of fun working with other students to continually produce new solutions and put into practice what we learned in class. And, of course, it is an absolutely unique experience to be involved in a world record,” said Yann Bernard, head of motor at AMZ.
