Called the “Counter-Rocket”, this “artillery and mortar cannon, based on the Navy’s Phalanx, is used to shoot down incoming fire in Iraq.” The Phalanx is basically a CIWS (close-in weapon system), equipped with a M61 rotary cannon that is capable of firing 4500-7000 rounds per minute, mounted in a self-contained turret.
