LEGO blocks can be used for much more than just creating figures like the Death Star. In this list, you’ll see five incredible creations that take LEGO to the next level.

Honorable Mention – Ultimate LEGO Chain Gun

So you’ve seen the others, now check out the “ultimate” LEGO rubberband gun. This device shoots an impressive 11-rounds per second .

5. Hand-Crank LEGO USB Charger

This DIY hand-crank charger basically uses a “LEGO motor to generate current, which is then passed through a voltage regulator, and lastly, to the usb port.” Instruction page.

It would make a great stocking stuffer for anyone who uses devices that charge via usb. If you are getting it for a person who likes to build their own things, just collect all the parts put them in a ziplock, and put that in the stocking

4. LEGO Toilet Paper Folder

File this under: “Cool LEGO Gadgets” UC Berkeley student Kyle Yeats built this nifty LEGO machine that dispenses, folds, and then cuts toilet paper for you.

Short of having your own butt-washing toilet seat, this is the next best thing. But then, we never thought folding toilet paper was that difficult. Could be some great entertainment in the loo, especially if these guys would combine this idea with that iPod dock/toilet paper holder

3. LEGO Bubble Gum Sorter

Created by “knusel111”, this incredible LEGO bubblegum sorter does just that and more. Definitely one of the most innovative projects we’ve seen.

2. NXTWay V.2

This followup to the original NXT Way comes equipped with an infrared light sensor, home made cables, and a custom program.

1. Self-Parking LEGO Car

So you’ve seen the self-parking Lexus and BMW, now check out the LEGO Mindstorms NXT version. There’s still a few bugs in the program that need to be worked out, but it gets the job done. A word from its creator:

It has got an ultrasonic sensor that detects the length of free spaces. Then, when it detects enough space, it makes the necessary movments to park. And when you say “GO!” it returns to the road
