Atlantic Productions and Magellan Limited partnered to capture over 700,000 images of the RMS Titanic wreckage during the summer of 2022. Two high-tech submersibles, Romeo and Juliet, operated simultaneously to provide a third person view of the Digital Twining process, resulting in a photorealistic 3D model that lets you zoom out to see the entire structure for the first time.

They ended up with 16 terabytes including lots of 4K footage, which was used to create the 3D model. The wreckage is in two parts, with the parts of the bow and stern separated by 2,600-feet, while a large debris field surrounds the Titanic. Two big challenges were just getting to the site at 4,000m and then the other being mapping ever square centimeter, even the not so interesting parts like the debris field.

The team observed one major area of deterioration, which was the officers’ quarters. This included the room of Captain Edward John Smith and discovered that the iconic Captain’s bathtub has now disappeared from view. Data from the dives has been analyzed by Lori Johnson, who has accessed the state of the wreck, which is being slowly destroyed by metal eating bacteria and strong currents,” said Atlantic Productions.
