Futurama Fan Builds Bender AI Desktop Assistant Powered by Raspberry Pi 5 and ChatGPT

Futurama fan Manuel Ahumada was tired of Siri and Alexa, so he decided to build his own Bender AI desktop assistant, powered by Raspberry Pi 5 and ChatGPT. This robot head uses ChatGPT to generate responses and then the Raspberry Pi 5 to interact in real-time.

Put simply, Bender listens for audio which is then converted into text that ChatGPT can parse for interpretation, and once a reply is ready, the data is then transposed into audio programmed to sound like the TV show’s voice actor, John DiMaggio. Its eyes can also look around while the mouth animates to simulate speech. There’s no word yet on when / if this project will go open source for other fans to build.
