Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite
Govee’s TV Backlight 3 Lite, priced at $64 (was $90), system has a neat trick: it attaches LED strips to the back of a 55 to 65-inch television and then places a small camera on top to monitor the screen in real time. Whatever is on television, a movie, a game, or a favorite show, the colors flood out onto the wall behind in real time, creating a larger picture that extends beyond the screen and is much easier on the eyes in a dark room.

The installation is straightforward, as in peel off the adhesive backing from the 11.8-foot LED strip and simply apply it to the back of the television. To ensure consistent coverage, divide the strip into three sections: top, bottom, and side. The camera has a helpful tiny gravitational hanging mount, since the adhesive bit simply sets it dead centre on the top edge, and gravity helps keep it steady even on a thin TV. You can configure the camera in the Govee Home app by displaying a test pattern on the TV, allowing the camera to map out the screen (and adapt for curved edges with some clever fish-eye correction), and then adjusting brightness, saturation, or white balance until it looks just perfect. Most people can do this in 15 to 30 minutes, however a dark location is recommended to prevent glare from interfering with color pickup.

The system’s performance is based on a new smart camera and innovative LED technology. The fish-eye correction performs an excellent job of smoothing out the distortions caused by the camera’s lens, resulting in much closer color matching at the edges, which means no more inaccurate color bleeding. Each LED light features four elements: red, green, blue, and a touch of warm white, so it appears clean and sharp even in quiet moments, but brilliant and punchy when the action heats up. The device detects signals from almost anyplace, including streaming applications, consoles, and cable, and it even blacks out the bars during detection to show only the picture on the wall. If you leave your screen blank for an extended period of time, it will switch off to save power and eliminate distractions.

You can control everything with the app, which includes a large number of preset scenes (over 99 in fact!), as well as the ability to alter the parameters to achieve the ideal movie transition or game reaction. And if you want to get fancy, you can even sync the lights to music. If you have other Govee devices in your home, you may connect them using DreamView to create a full surround experience. You can also use Alexa or Google Assistant to control the lights with voice commands.

Playing games on a wide screen with the backlighting turned on is a real treat since the explosions and action really make an impression on the wall, and viewing movies in a dark room is even more immersive.
