Arrowhead Game Studios just released a new Helldivers 2 Galactic Emergency trailer, marking a major escalation in the game’s ongoing narrative, focusing on the Illuminate faction’s full-scale invasion of Super Earth.
The trailer teases the Illuminate, a smart and high-tech alien group, bursting out of the Meridia Singularity to attack Super Earth, the core of the game’s “Managed Democracy,” in a sudden, unprovoked strike. This is a big deal in the Second Galactic War, ramping up the excitement for players.

A new system lets players upgrade most primary weapons by completing missions, unlocking add-ons like sights, magazines, muzzles, and under-barrel mods using Requisition. Players can also decorate weapons with custom patterns for style, inspired by Warbonds like Viper Commandos and Freedom’s Flame, adding more ways to personalize gear.
The in-game Superstore now has all past items available without rotating out, so players can grab gear they missed. This “emergency expansion” helps players fight the Illuminate.
The update adds three new Illuminate enemies. First, Stingrays, fast jetfighters that swoop down to blast Helldivers from the sky with heavy attacks. Second, Crescent Overseers, tough ground units that can strike Helldivers even when they’re behind cover. Third, Fleshmobs, creepy monsters made from failed Illuminate experiments using Voteless body parts, turned into brutal battlefield beasts.
This update, Patch 01.003.000 (out now on PC and PS5), is one of the game’s biggest, building on the Omens of Tyranny update from December 2024, which brought back the Illuminate. Fans have been waiting for this faction’s return since Helldivers 2 launched, as they were in the original Helldivers game.
