How Laser Beams Engrave Things
Ever wonder how laser beams can be used to engrave things? If so, Alex of Laser Everything shows us how it’s done using a high-speed camera. Simply put, a high-powered laser beam is used to vaporize the surface of the target material, resulting in a cavity whose depth can range from 1/15″ to 1/8″. It can be done on plastic, wood, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, and glass surfaces.

No, you won’t need the most powerful laser in the US to engrave things, just a machine that you can find on Amazon. These machines consist of three parts: the laser, a control system, and the marking surface. The operator then uses a software program to modify settings on the engraver, including the power output of the laser as well as the speed of the controller that directs it across the material surface.
