Robotics engineers have developed the i Robot arm, which is capable of acquiring the skill to flip pancakes through reinforcement learning — “the skill is first demonstrated via kinesthetic teaching, and then refined by Policy learning by Weighting Exploration with the Returns (PoWER) algorithm.” Video after the break.

We’d like to pretend to be all serious about the science behind teaching a robot arm to teach itself a complicated motion like pancake flipping.
