Intel Co-Founder Gordon Moore 94-Years-Old Dies
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced today that Intel co-founder Gordon Moore has passed at the age of 94, quietly at his home in Hawaii surrounded by family. Intel paved the way for the future of the semiconductor industry after Moore and Robert Noyce founded the company in July 1968.

Moore initially served as executive vice president until 1975 and named CEO four years later, a position he held until 1987, when he gave up the CEO position and continued as chairman. Established in 1965, Moore’s Law states that the number of transistors on a microchip doubles every two years, claiming that we can expect the speed and capability of our computers to increase every two years. This means consumers will pay less for them, as growth is exponential.

Gordon was a brilliant scientist and one of America’s leading entrepreneurs and business leaders. It is impossible to imagine the world we live in today, with computing so essential to our lives, without the contributions of Gordon Moore. He will always be an inspiration to our Intel family and his thinking at the core of our innovation culture,” said Frank D. Yeary, chairman of Intel’s board of directors.
