Intel Thunderbolt 5 Connectivity Standard
The new Intel Thunderbolt 5 connectivity standard is capable of delivering 80 gigabits per second (Gbps) of bi-directional bandwidth, and up to 120 Gbps with Bandwidth for an optimal display experience. This standard will be broadly compatible with previous versions of Thunderbolt and USB, along with current standards like USB4 V2.



Featuring double the PCI Express data throughput for faster storage as well as external graphics, double the bandwidth of Thunderbolt Networking for high-speed PC-to-PC connections, and the utilization of a new signaling technology, PAM-3, to deliver significant increases in performance with today’s printed circuit boards, connectors as well as passive cables up to 1 meter. Computers and accessories based on the Thunderbolt 5 controller, named Barlow Ridge, are expected to ship in 2024.
