Intuitive Machines Odysseus Lander Touch Down Lunar South Pole Moon
Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus lander has successfully touched down near the lunar south pole, the first private spacecraft ever and United States’ first since NASA’s crewed Apollo 17 lander in December 1972.

Odysseus will now operate for about seven Earth days on the lunar surface with its payloads, and the IM-1 mission will end when the sun goes down at Malapert A. Why? The lunar lander was not designed to survive the freezing temperatures of the long lunar night.

Odysseus’ Terrain Relative Navigation camera captured this image of the Bel’kovich K crater in the Moon’s northern equatorial highlands. It is an approximate 50 km diameter crater with mountains in the center, made when the crater was formed,” said Intuitive Machines.
