While many of us wait patiently for the first iPhone 17 dummy units to leak, PBK Reviews provides us with one of the first iPhone 16e teardown videos. One positive note is that its OLED screen assembly is very easy to remove, requiring just a standard set of tools to unfasten the ribbon cable buttons from the rest of the device.
Removing the battery needs one to apply a low-voltage current, whether it be from a 9V battery or USB-C charger, to part it from the rest of the chassis. This ‘debonding’ process basically takes around 90-seconds, after which the battery can be removed. There’s just one noticeable drawback, the A18 chip does not have its own dedicated cooling solution, just a graphite film and copper tape included to assist in heat transfers.
