Knightscope’s K5 surveillance robot is set to patrol New York City’s bustling Times Sq-42 St station. This autonomous bot can recharge itself without any human intervention and features force multiplying physical deterrence, 360-degree HD video streaming / recording, and people detection during certain restricted hours.
K5 has already begun its pilot program and will spend the next two weeks mapping the station at Times Square. A human officer will accompany the surveillance robot from 12-6 am before being introduced to the public. Strategically placed docks will enable K5 to recharge when necessary. After successfully completing the pilot, the robot is set to monitor the station’s mezzanine level.
- Build a Geckobot model that walks vertically up smooth surfaces like windows, glass, and mirrors.
- Learn about the physics of air pressure, suction, and surface texture.
- Build 6 robotic models, in addition to the Geckobot; 7 different models in all.
Let me say this: If anyone destroys this or vandalizes this, they’re going to be captured on video and we’re going to prosecute them, and they’re going to be arrested. Depending on the damage, it could be a felony,” said Michael Kemper, NYPD Chief of Transit.
