Google Maps AI Immersive View Launch
Google Maps’ AI-powered Immersive View feature has just launched in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. Unlike Street View, Immersive View lets you take a virtual tour of various locations, whether it be a museum or coffee shop. Move the time slider to see what certain areas look like at different times of the day and weather conditions.

These real-life recreations are made possible with neural radiance fields (NeRF), an advanced artificial intelligence technique that transforms 2D pictures into 3D representations. This technology enables Google to accurately recreate the full context of a place including its lighting and even what can be found in the background. When you search with Live View on, Google Maps uses AI and AR to help you find things, such as ATMs, restaurants, ballparks, movie theaters and metro stations by simply lifting your phone while on a street.

With glanceable directions, you can track your journey right from your route overview or lock screen. You’ll see updated ETAs and where to make your next turn — information that was previously only visible by unlocking your phone, opening the app and using comprehensive navigation mode,” said Google.
