The LEGO Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel returns after a decade-long hiatus with new sets for the LEGO-Maersk alliance. With set 40955, admirers of large ship models can now experience modern shipping at a scale that will fit on your shelf.
When you open the box, you’ll discover 1516 pieces just waiting to be used, as the model brings the Ane Maersk to life, the first major container ship built to run on both green methanol and ordinary old petrol. That genuine ship can transport over 16,000 containers and dramatically reduces daily emissions; it is part of Maersk’s drive to become net-zero by 2040. The LEGO version of this design is scaled down to this wonderful display piece, which is approximately 23 inches long, 7 inches tall, and slightly more than 4.5 inches wide. Did I mention that it sits on a stand with a nameplate and information plaque?

Putting it together is going through 17 numbered bags, and it is truly as simple as it can be. Yes, you must repeat some sections several times, but development is consistent and satisfying. It also helps that the majority of the detailing is done with printed bricks rather than stickers; for example, the Maersk logo on the hull panels and the “All the Way to Zero” tagline at the front are both great touches. To be fair, the sticker sheet is noticeably lighter than previous Maersk sets, which is a significant improvement.
As you progress through the build, certain significant characteristics begin to appear. First, the detachable panel on the forward bridge allows you to see inside the crew quarters, which include a bed, a compass, a globe map, a mug, and a few small features for fun. Then there are the translucent windows down the hull that allow you to view into the engine room, which is well finished in sand green tones. You can also slide out these gangways on the sides and take the containers off to observe how they are loaded and emptied, which is a lovely touch. The back includes a propeller and rudder, much like the real thing; wonderful job, LEGO, for paying attention to such subtleties..

At approximately 60 centimeters (2 feet) length, it is slightly shorter than the original Maersk Triple-E set from 2014, allowing it to be readily stored one most shelves. The medium blue hull is a good departure from the traditional Maersk blue; I’m not sure why they chose this new color, but it’s a nice difference. The team has decided not to include any minifigures which is a bit of a shame but you can get a special captain torso over at the LEGO Minifigure Factory if you want to add a bit of extra flair to your model.

This set costs $149.99 in the United States, £139.99 in the United Kingdom, and €149.99 in Europe, and it will be available on March 1, 2026, exclusively through the LEGO website and official retailers. It is a limited edition, so if you are a ship collector or are interested in industry sustainability efforts, you should act quickly.
