Legonauts Project LEGO Minifigures Shuttle Space
Luxury balloon rides to the edge of space is one thing, the Legonauts project accomplished the same feat, but with 1,000 LEGO astronaut minifigures. They were carried up there by a high-altitude stratospheric weather balloon on a 3D-printed space shuttle from an airport in Slovakia. The balloon burst at an altitude of 21-miles, with the landing platform returning to Earth safely with a parachute.

Footage was captured using two cameras, which didn’t add much weight to the payload, thanks to the 3D-printed space shuttle being fabricated from lightweight carbon composite. Getting all 1,000 minifigures up there wasn’t an easy task, as it required three separate flights with around 330 of them going up each time. The hardest task may have been for the marketing agency working with LEGO since they had to make sure that none of these minifigures fell off mid-flight.
