Logitech sometimes makes gadgets that solve problems you didn’t know you had. Their latest, the Signature Slim Solar+ K980, is a wireless keyboard that can be powered by any light source bright enough to read a book under, and will never need to be plugged in…ever.
A strip of light-absorbing cells runs along the top edge of the K980, soaking up energy from sunlight, desk lamps and even the glow of a computer screen. With Logitech’s unique LightCharge technology, the keyboard requires only 200 lux – roughly the brightness of a dimly lit room – to keep its battery charged. When fully charged, it can run for up to four months in complete darkness. You could put this thing in a drawer for a season and it’d still be ready to type when you got it out. The internal battery, which is supposed to last a decade, is removable if it fails, and Logitech has worked with iFixit so you can swap it out yourself.

Typing on the K980 is like slipping into your favorite pair of sneakers. The low-profile scissor-switch keys are snappy but soft, with just enough travel to prevent the flat, lifeless feel that other ultra-slim keyboards have. The full-size layout includes a number pad, which is rare in thin designs, so it’s perfect for anyone crunching numbers or managing spreadsheets. At 430.8mm wide, 142.9mm deep and 20.2mm thick it’s slim enough to fit in a bag but substantial enough to feel like a proper desk companion.

It pairs via Bluetooth with up to three devices – your laptop, tablet or phone – and switches between them with a tap of its Easy-Switch keys. Whether you’re on Windows, macOS or ChromeOS the keyboard’s dual-printed key legends mean you’ll never get confused. A dedicated Mac version adds a Logi Bolt USB-C receiver for secure connections in busy offices, while the business version also integrates with Logitech Sync so IT teams can monitor device status remotely.

The Logitech Options+ app lets you set up to 23 shortcut keys, including an AI Launch key that opens programs like Copilot, Gemini and ChatGPT. Smart Actions enables macros to streamline your workflow, like opening programs, sending emails or changing settings. K980 comes in three variants: universal for $99.99, Mac-specific for $99.99 and business for $109.99.
