Here’s a first official look at the McLaren P1, which is essentially the follow-up to the legendary McLaren F1. It boasts a “a mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and an electric motor producing a system output of 903HP (916PS) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels.” Continue reading for two videos, more pictures, and additional information.

This may enable the P1 to reach a theoretical top speed of approximately 384 km/h (239 mph) with production beginning in early 2013 and sales taking place towards the end of the year.Tom Moore from The Manufacturer magazine revealed that the P1 will cost £700,000 before taxes and that McLaren Automotive plans to limit production to just 500.

As with the McLaren F1 road car of 1992, the McLaren P1 is a mid-engine design that uses a carbon fibre monocoque and roof structure safety cage concept called MonoCage, which is a development of the MonoCell used in the current MP4-12C and MP4-12C Spider upgrade that came out in early 2012.
