Michael B. Jordan’s Thomas Crown Affair Gets First Trailer, Where Risk is on the Wire

Amazon MGM Studios has put the first trailer online for its new take on The Thomas Crown Affair, and the opening frames already set a clear tone. Michael B. Jordan stands at the base of a long museum staircase, staring up at what looks like Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. The camera holds on his face long enough to register quiet calculation before the cut. That single beat tells you this version of the story treats the theft itself as something closer to performance than simple crime.

Jordan plays the title character and also directs. He has stated that their fresh take on the plot is a complete reimagining of the iconic 1968 picture and the 1999 remake, rather than a direct duplicate. He stated in earlier comments that previous films focussed on wealthy individuals who stole for the sheer thrill of it – the ‘joy of it’. This new Crown, however, differs in that the goal is to reclaim belongings that belong to others or were taken from them. He’s gone so far as to claim that vengeance is a sort of art.

Adria Arjona plays the agent attempting to stop him, a calculated investigator with plenty of experience. She appears to be a seasoned professional who has handled similar instances in the past. In their first actual encounter in the trailer, they meet at a swanky event, and she simply gives him a level, matter-of-fact look, stating “I know precisely who you are,” and the tension builds. Kenneth Branagh appears as a character who appears to disagree with Crown’s goals. Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbaek, and other huge names in music are also joining the cast, with Jon Batiste scoring, indicating that music will play an important role in this film.


The film is set to open in theaters on March 5, 2027, with the option of seeing it on the huge IMAX screens. Jordan’s production credits go to Outlier Society, which also includes Elizabeth Raposo, Charles Roven, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff. The famous Alan Trustman, the writer of the original 1968 screenplay, also serves as executive producer. Drew Pearce, who had previously worked on the source material, wrote the new script.
