Electreon partnered with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to build North America’s first wireless electric charging road system. This enables compatible EVs to charge while driving, in motion, and when parked.
A blue Ford E-Transit commercial van was able to wirelessly recharge its battery as traveled over a stretch of newly paved 14th Street, a stone’s throw from Michigan Central Station. This was made possible with rubber-coated copper coils nestled beneath the road surface. Vehicles looking to test this system will need to install a special receiver, or at least for now.

The pilot will also serve as a potential first step towards much larger Electric Road Systems being considered in multiple U.S. states and aims to build partnerships with U.S. based vehicle and infrastructure companies in order to serve as a blueprint for future collaboration and growth,” said electreon.
