The brand-new Microsoft Surface Pro 12 is a fanless, ARM-powered 2-in-1 tablet made to be easy to carry and budget-friendly, starting at $799. It’s not a direct follow-up to the Surface Pro 11th Edition but a slimmer, lighter option with some compromises.
How? It has a 12-inch PixelSense LCD touchscreen with 2196 x 1464 resolution and up to a 90Hz dynamic refresh rate, which isn’t as fancy as the 13-inch Surface Pro’s 120Hz OLED or LCD choices. Inside, it’s got a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus (8-core) chip, designed to save power with no fan, supporting Copilot+ PC AI features like Recall, AI-powered Windows search, and Click to Do, but there’s no Snapdragon X Elite version available.

The base model comes with 16GB of RAM (can’t be upgraded) and 256GB or 512GB UFS storage (fixed, not a removable SSD like the 13-inch model). Battery life is great, lasting up to 16 hours for watching videos locally and 12 hours for web browsing, better than the 13-inch model, probably because of the fanless design and lower power use.
Other features include a 1080p front camera with Windows Hello face login, a 10MP rear camera moved for better portrait videos and photos, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two USB-C 3.2 ports (no USB-A or Surface Connect port), and support for up to two 4K external monitors.
For design, it’s 274 x 190 x 7.8mm, weighs 1.5 pounds (680g), and is much thinner (by 1.5mm) and lighter (by ~200g) than the 13-inch Surface Pro (11th Edition). The Surface Pro 12 has an aluminum body with a built-in kickstand and comes in Ocean, Slate, and Violet colors, available starting May 20, 2025.
