Researchers at Purdue University and Pennsylvania State University give us a glimpse at the future of propellants, with the ALICE project. Using nanoscale aluminum and water ice, they manage to create powerful rocket fuel. Video after the break.

The key to ALICE’s efficacy comes from the nanoscale aluminum powder, whose fine texture provides more surface area for reacting with the water.
