NASA Four Astronauts Crewed Artemis II Mission Moon
NASA announced the four astronauts for the crewed Artemis II Moon mission, the first in 50-years. Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Hammock Koch, and CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen will take part in a 10-day Artemis II flight test that is set to launch on the agency’s powerful Space Launch System rocket in November 2024 to validate the capabilities as well as techniques needed for humans to live and work in deep space.

The four astronauts will be transported by Orion MPCV Spacecraft into a lunar flyby using the Block 1 variant of the Space Launch System. Some of their objectives will include multiple departure burns and a free return trajectory from the Moon. Orion will be launched to a high Earth orbit with a period of roughly 42 hours and during this time, the crew will perform various checkouts of the spacecraft’s life support systems as ell as proximity operations demonstration using the spent Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS) as a target.

For the first time in more than 50 years, these individuals – the Artemis II crew – will be the first humans to fly to the vicinity of the Moon. Among the crew are the first woman, first person of color, and first Canadian on a lunar mission, and all four astronauts will represent the best of humanity as they explore for the benefit of all. This mission paves the way for the expansion of human deep space exploration and presents new opportunities for scientific discoveries, commercial, industry and academic partnerships and the Artemis Generation,” said Director Vanessa Wyche, NASA Johnson.
