You heard it right—Kumori is the second character you can play as in Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, a 2D side-scrolling action game made by The Game Kitchen and put out by Dotemu. She’s a female ninja from the Black Spider Clan, and letting players use her is a big choice since it puts you in the shoes of someone from an enemy group.
Kumori fights in a fierce, no-nonsense way, skipping old ninja rules to win however she can. While Kenji Mozu, the other main character, swings a katana for up-close battles, Kumori throws kunai—little knives that let her hit from far away, attack super fast, and strike from almost any spot or surface. Her quickness and flexibility make her great for wild fights or taking on enemies in tricky places.

Her powers include “Shadow Arts,” which give her new Spider Weapons and strong Ragebound Arts that fit different ways to play and plan. Her spirit form is a key mechanic—since her physical body is trapped in the demon world, she often operates as a spectral companion to Kenji. Through Demonic Altars, she can temporarily manifest in her corporeal form, accessing an alternate demonic dimension to reveal hidden paths or solve puzzles, though these segments are time-limited.

For those who have never heard of the game, it begins immediately after the opening of the original NES Ninja Gaiden, where Ryu Hayabusa leaves Hayabusa Village to avenge his father’s death. With Ryu gone, the veil between the human and demon realms breaks, unleashing chaos. Kenji Mozu, a young Hayabusa Clan ninja trained by Ryu, steps up to defend the village. It’s set to release in Summer 2025 on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.

Since Kumori’s physical body remains trapped in the demon world, only her spirit travels with Kenji, but through Demonic Altars, she can temporarily return to her corporeal form. These moments allow her to interact with an alternate demonic dimension, revealing hidden paths invisible to human eyes. However, her time in this state is limited, forcing players to think fast, solve puzzling situations, and overcome intense challenges before time runs out,” said David Jaumandreu. Producer & Game Director, The Game Kitchen.
