Nintendo PageBoy Game Boy Accessory
H/t: Kotaku
Here’s a look back at an unreleased Game Boy Color accessory that might have turned it into a smartphone of sorts. Called the Nintendo PageBoy, this device would have given Game Boy Color users access to email, web browsing, photo messaging, world news, sports results, weather forecasts, and more.

That’s not all, Game Boy Camera users would have also been able to send photos each other. Eddie Gill proposed the idea back in 1999, and the technology basically utilized radio waves in a similar fashion to two-way pagers. Unfortunately, these radio networks only existed in very few parts of the world, thus limiting the device’s profitability. This resulted in the project being cancelled by Nintendo in 2002 after three years of development. However, if it were released, the planned MSRP was around $49.99.
