University of Maryland Hardened Wood Steel

Researchers at the University of Maryland have developed a type of hardened wood that is stronger than steel, and could potentially be used to make shark sustainable knives or wooden nails resistant to rusting. How strong is the latter? Well, strong enough to hammer together three boards without any damage to the nail. Creating this type of wood is a two-step process: first, they had to delignify it applying pressure and heat to the chemically processed wood to densify as well as remove the water.

XPeng HT Aero Electric Flying Car
XPeng-backed HT Aero announced that they have successfully raised over $500-milllion in a Series A financing round that will see funds being used to develop flying cars. Their latest-generation model is claimed to be a fully integrated flying vehicle and automobile, designed for both low-altitude air travel as well as road driving. An official roll-out is expected to happen some time in 2024.

Porsche Taycan S x Back to the Future DeLorean DMC-12
To celebrate exceeding 1.21 gigawatts of combined charging power between the Electrify America and the European Ionity charging network, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S met up with the iconic Back to the Future DeLorean DMC-12 showdown in the desert. Currently, there are 670 Electrify America and 372 Ionity locations, consisting of over 4,800 individual chargers. The Porsche Taycan can be charged to 80% in just 22-minutes, thanks to its 800-volt battery architecture and 270kW charge speed. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will be 65-years-old in 2042, and in this new Battlefield 2042 trailer, he still manages to win MVP at that age. Will he make an appearance in the game? You’ll have to wait until November 19th to find out, but one thing is for sure, this game will be entirely multiplayer, without a single-player campaign. Weighing just 1,627-pounds, India-based Vazirani Automotive claims that its new Ekonk hypercar is the world’s lightest electric vehicle, thanks in part to DiCo technology as well as its carbon fiber body. DiCo technology basically enables the batteries to be cooled directly with air rather than requiring liquid cooling that most manufacturers, like Tesla, use to keep the packs cool.

Blue Origin Orbital Reef Space Station
Blue Origin has partnered with Sierra Space to build Orbital Reef, a commercially developed and operated space station in low Earth orbit. It’s being called a “mixed use business park,” but in space, and with human-centered space architecture as well as world-class services and amenities. The goal is to minimize cost and complexity for both traditional space operators and new arrivals.

Elon Musk SpaceX Gateway to Mars Starship
Elon Musk’s SpaceX is aiming to launch its first orbital Starship spaceflight by early 2022 and a new “Gateway to Mars” video shows the spacecraft, along with the Super Heavy booster, almost ready to go. Unlike the other Starship test flights, this one will be fueled by a 230-foot tall booster, with the bottom housing up to 33 sea-level optimized Raptor engines that produce 72 MN (16,000,000 lbf) of thrust during liftoff. Concorde Last Flight British Airways Heathrow Airport
The Concorde operated its last passenger flight on October 24th, 2003 taking off from New York, while the final flight in the US took place in November 2003 when it flew from New York’s JFK Airport to Seattle’s Boeing Field to join the Museum of Flight’s permanent collection. The latter of which was piloted by Mike Bannister and Les Broadie, who claimed a flight time of 3 hours, 55 minutes and 12 seconds, a record between the two cities, thanks to Canada granting use of a supersonic corridor between Chibougamau, Quebec and Peace River.
