Pentaform AbacusBasic Computer Inside Keyboard
Pentaform’s ‘AbacusBasic’ has nothing to do with the manual instrument for performing calculations, but rather a fully-functional computer concealed within a compact keyboard. Featuring a quad-core Intel Atom x5-Z8350 Cherry Trail processor (1.44 GHz / 1.84 GHz Turbo Boost), up to 8GB of LPDDR3 64-bit dual-channel RAM, 128GB of eMMC module storage, an SD card slot (512GB max), a built-in speaker and an integrated trackpad.

This Windows 10 computer may be compact, but there is no shortage of ports, as you’ll find an HDMI 2.0 port that supports up to 4K @ 30, a VGA port, 3.5mm headphone jack with mic support, a USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports, a gigabit ethernet port, a USB-C port with power delivery support, and a radio module offering support for 802.11 ac Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 4.2. Available for pre-order now, priced from $149 USD, with a release date set for later this month. More information here. In somewhat related news, MIT researchers created a knitted keyboard that can be used to play music.

We want to prove that tech can be sustainable too. While being affordable for everyone. The Abacus’ outer body is made from recyclable ABS plastic. Abacus consumes 75% less energy than a regular desktop computer and with a 31kWh/year power consumption rating, it’s about as energy-efficient as a lightbulb,” said the company.
