Clay Knights of Galar, Aardman’s Pokémon Tales The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu Finally Moves in New Trailer

Aardman Animations and The Pokémon Company International premiered a new teaser trailer Friday during a packed behind-the-scenes panel at Pokémon XP in San Francisco, the fan event running alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. The 44-second clip gives the first proper look at clay puppets of Sirfetch’d and Pichu actually moving through a handmade version of the Galar region. Disney+ will serve as the exclusive worldwide streaming home when the stop-motion series arrives in 2027, with Disney XD carrying the television debut.

Sirfetch’d, the slightly awkward knight who wants nothing more than to be the region’s best, holds a leek in his palm like a trusty sword or battleflag. Pichu is right at his side, a smart little fellow who is often the first to spot problems. The director, Tom Parkinson, thought the team of Sirfetch’d and Pichu was a natural odd couple from the start, one with lofty goals but nonetheless capable of ending on his behind in the dirt. The other is lively and curious enough to keep the pair going in the right direction. Their job is to assist out and safeguard wild Pokémon, but as soon as they start, their plans break apart, and that’s when the laughs and friendships begin.

Galar was an easy choice because its terrain resembles the Bristol studio. The rolling hills, old stone walls, snow on the Crown Tundra, and a bunch of Wooloo roaming around in the countryside all fit in nicely with the countryside they’ve been building up for years. The crew spent hours playing Pokémon Sword and Shield while developing all of the sets and puppets to ensure that the environments and characters looked natural together. Phil Rynda, Pokémon’s director of original animation, says the finished environments make you want to put your nose up in the air and run your hand along a tree trunk, and new footage and stills confirm that Obstagoon, Impidimp, and Appletun will all appear and cause trouble for the main pair. The villains appear to be Escavalier-style knights who see this as more of an adventure than a rescue operation.


Pokémon Tales The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu is all about the Pokémon, with no mention of human trainers. They communicate primarily through shouting out their own names and physical comedy, which is similar to what makes Shaun the Sheep entertaining. Consider the teaser they released last year, which showed the couple running to assist a Wooloo that was performing electric, ground, and fire maneuvers in quick succession, finishing up with a burnt apple lodged in its mouth. The new teaser simply builds on that excitement, showcasing the team’s handcrafted settings and gloomy skies.


It has been a while since the alliance was first announced in late 2024, and the project has been moving forward ever since. First, there was a title announcement, followed by the first decent look at the pilot material at Aardman’s panel at the Annecy festival in June. Last week, they had puppet demos, set walkthroughs, and the announcement that James Young will be in charge of model-making, while Natalie McKay will be working on the creative side with Parkinson.
