When you combine Nintendo’s Game Boy Micro with a smartwatch, you get the Retro Gaming Watch. Featuring a main 1.54″ (320 x 320) LCD display, a small external display, a Renesas / Dialog DA14706 processor, 8MB of external QSPI RAM, 1.5MB of internal memory, and a 2D GPU.
Despite its size, you still get a functional D-pad, four action buttons, an integrated mono speaker, magnetometer, and accelerometer. It uses an Efinix T20 FPGA to create custom video game hardware on the fly, thanks to custom cores that can emulate most 8 and 16-bit game consoles. Available now for pre-order, priced at $159, with shipments beginning in November 2024. Kickstarter page here.
