The crew over at Shank Mods attempts to fix a 43-inch Sony PVM-4300, and it was a monumental task, literally. Weighing in at a hefty 440-pounds and standing 27-inches tall, it remains the world’s largest CRT TV.
Why would Sony release such a large CRT TV back in 1989? Well, the PVM-4300, also known as the KX-45ED1, was intended to be “limited edition” model to celebrate Trinitron’s 20th anniversary, and retailed for $15,522 ($39,492 in 2024). There was also a variant with integrated VT-X5R tuner. However, it wasn’t until 1990 did the PVM-4300 hit the US market, but for over double the price at $40,000 ($96,554 in 2024).
