It’s no WeWalk Smart Cane, but the Shimmer contactless payment terminal may potentially help the visually impaired in stores and elsewhere. Designed by Hefei LCFC Information Technology, this wearable device features a basic E-ink screen, scanning camera, braille buttons as well as a pair of earphones.
A hidden camera aims to make Shimmer more secure and close, while earphones allow the user to confirm the payment information. When not in use, its retractable design makes the device much more concise. There’s no word yet on when we’ll see a working prototype, but Hefei LCFC Information Technology did win an iF Design Award in 2022 in the ‘Communication Devices’ category.
