Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser Tenacity and its Shooting Star cargo module was recently stacked at NASA’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Ohio for testing. One of the first tests involved the spacecraft shaker system that exposed Dream Chaser and Shooting Star to vibrations similar to hose experienced during launch / re-entry into the atmosphere.
The next test will see Dream Chaser Tenacity being moved to a large, in-ground vacuum chamber that simulates a space environment, complete with low ambient pressures, low-background temperatures, and dynamic solar heating. Engineers hope this data is going to help make its uncrewed demonstration flight to the International Space Station later this year a success as part of NASA’s Commercial Resupply Program.
