The sleek 2-seater prototype, which made its debut yesterday at the nifty Smart Global Brand Event in Beijing, provides us with the clearest glimpse yet of where the company believes it will go in the future. Smart has always been about cars that glide effortlessly through congested streets, and the Concept #2 captures that same vibe, but this time switching to electric power and adding a few new touches that give it individuality.
The car, which measures 2,792 millimeters from the front to back, is small in comparison to most electric vehicles on the road today. The way the wheels are pushed out to the corners is pretty interesting, as it makes for a surprisingly spacious cabin for two people and all the odds and ends they’ll need for a day out, and the same layout gives the Concept #2 a shockingly small turning circle of only 6.95 meters, which is a dream come true for anyone who enjoys squeezing into tight urban spots.
- Speed & Range: Experience exhilarating rides with the Ninebot S2's impressive top speed of 11.2 mph and range of 21.7 miles.
- Beginner-Friendly: Perfect for riders aged 16-50, the Segway S2 features a user-friendly learning mode, providing a smooth and gradual introduction.
- Adjustable & Supportive: Enjoy a customized fit tailored to your needs, as the Segway S2 accommodates heights ranging from 4'3" to 6'6" and supports...
A soft, matte white finish covers the most of the #2, with some warm gold touches at the bottom borders, around the windows, and on the mirrors. The automobile has some excellent leather straps and hardware that make it feel more like a high-end purse than a car component. Look closer, and the translucent panels in the car’s body will show some fascinating little hidden designs that only appear when the light hits them just right. The overall design is clean and rounded, reminiscent of the original ForTwo but with a lot more going on.
Hidden beneath the Concept #2’s sleek shell is the new Electric Compact Architecture, a completely in-house system designed for tiny electric vehicles. So far, estimations suggest a range of roughly 300 km on a single charge, which is sufficient for almost any daily commute or short trip. If there is a compatible charging station nearby, DC fast charging can recharge the battery to 80% capacity in less than 20 minutes. Oh, and there’s a handy little ‘Vehicle-to-Load’ capability on board that allows you to connect your phone, laptop, or even a small kettle if you like.

Production versions of the Smart #2 will make their public premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October, with European sales expected to commence before the end of the year. Even in concept form, it demonstrates the brand’s continuous emphasis on agility and everyday utility, especially in busy urban areas where larger EVs may feel out of place. Smart is now focusing on Europe, China, and a few other worldwide regions, with a launch in the United States improbable.
