Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Lost Stages
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was first released on November 21, 1992 and quickly became the fastest-selling game of all time, but did you know that nearly half of the originally planned stages were scrapped? That’s right, they include Wood Zone, Dust Hill Zone and Genocide City Zone.

Ocean Wind Zone is another lost stage from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that was set to be the second zone after Emerald Hill Zone. This was planned to be a coastal stage where Sonic would dash across wooden piers built along the ocean. Cliffside terrain would dominate the background, as well as islands, similar to those found in Emerald Hill Zone. At some point in the stage, Sonic would’ve been able to either jump off of a pier ramp or run across a cliff wall.
